Judge’s Commentary on Seven o’Clock Man:

“The narrator’s voice is immediately idiosyncratic and enjoyable. ‘I seen plenty a wolf traveling with a lamb.’ Good line, p. 25. It seems like you’ve put a lot of effort into making your cast of characters unique and detailed. Love the nicknames.

‘I’m too dirty. I’ll stain it.’ something poignant about that moment, p. 45. There’s sometimes a little bit too much commentary in the dialogues. Perhaps keep your dialogues clearer, so they don’t need so much explaining, p. 57. What an action scene at p. 78! Really well done.

‘but what they really looked like was yo-yo masters’ – funny! p. 100. I like this description on p. 114. ‘Some parts of the City of Angels…’ p. 114. You show a good knowledge of California history with this bit on p. 128 about the ‘nutteries.’ So sadly true.

‘bloody clothes lay like a dead dog’ – powerful line, p. 147. A really visceral beating at p. 166. I can feel it. You do a good job of matching your use of language to the mental state of your characters, p. 190.” – Judge, 25th Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards.
